STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL (SRC)

download_1.jpg

The SRC works as an advocate for the needs of the school community, and as a point of contact between the student body and the school leadership team. It addresses relevant issues and sets achievable goals which support the school.

The SRC aims to:

  • develop leadership skills
  • provide opportunities for students to create and to implement
  • give students a greater voice in decision-making processes,
  • empower students to contribute to a positive school culture and
  • strengthen the school community through active participation.

It is with great pleasure that I announce the Semester 2 Student Representative Council for 2022:

SRC Chairperson - Year 6 leader Cameron B
Year 6 Noah S
Year 5 Reed B
Year 4 Fab M
Year 3 Hugh S
Year 2 Jude C
Year 1 Oliver W

RESOURCES FOR PARENTS TO ASSIST WITH ONLINE SUPERVISION

download.jpg
As parents, you cannot escape the imperative to learn about technology. You need to know what interests your children and how they spend their time online. Many parents feel they are “snooping”, but parenting guidelines from the real world apply equally to online. It’s fair to set limits and expect honest conversations about who their friends are, what platforms and apps they use and what sites they visit. It’s reasonable to express your desire to protect them and that may involve following them on platforms such as Facebook (and chatrooms), Snapchat, Instagram, Tik Tok and YouTube.

Navigating the online experiences of your children requires effort and diligence.

Be prepared for the reality that, despite the best filters and parental controls, at some time your child may stumble across, or be exposure to sexually explicit material, grooming and unwanted approaches from strangers, cyberbullying, internet addiction, privacy issues and sexting, to name a few.

The website for the Office of the eSafety Commissioner has great resources. See below.

UCI BIKE EVENT UPDATE

As you are becoming more aware of the impact the UCI road world championships event will be having on your movements during the 18-25 September 2022, I want to assure you that we are in daily communication with the Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong (CEDoW) who, in turn, is in contact with the Department of Education (DoE) and the event organisers to ensure we are given accurate information, as soon as possible, regarding the traffic and risk management strategies.

CEDoW and DoE are currently waiting for information from the Minister’s Department regarding the operation of schools during this period.

We have been advised that detailed information will be communicated to us in the coming week and we will send this to you as a matter of priority.

COVID-19 SMART PROCEDURES FOR COMING ONTO SITE

Despite many restrictions being lifted, the St Brigid’s staff have elected to continue to wear face masks to keep healthy and to achieve learning continuity for the students by avoiding sickness and absenteeism. Therefore, I ask that you show your support for the staff by adhering to the 4 COVID-19 smart procedures below when you come onto the school site as a volunteer or visitor.

WONDER RECYCLING REWARDS

In Australia, only 18% of plastic packaging is recycled. That's why we have registered to participate in the Wonder Recycling Rewards - a fun and easy program for Aussie schools to not only recycle bread bags that might otherwise go to landfill, but we can earn rewards points to redeem on new sports equipment for our efforts.
Screen_Shot_2022_05_27_at_8.33.37_am.png
Also we will be in the running to hopefully be the successful school to win the Replas exercise circuits.
Let's do this for St Brigid's and the planet. Start sending in your bread bags now!

CATHEDRAL CAR PARKING - CAN YOU HELP?

If you can assist at some of the upcoming events, please add your name to the google spreadsheet.

Please continue to fill in the reporting google form if your child has even the mildest of respiratory symptoms; is a close household contact, or has tested Positive for COVID-19.

The information contained in this form gives me very good data about prevailing illness in the school which I can communicate to parents to help us all work together to ensure the health and safety of our community.

This google form can be found on the St Brigid’s website, as a link in the Brigid Bulletin and by clicking the link in the COMPASS news-feed.

Students and staff who have undergone testing and have been directed to self-isolate can return to school when: they have received a negative test result, completed their 7 day isolation period AND are not displaying symptoms of illness.

Your support in ensuring the health and safety of the St Brigid’s Community during this global pandemic has been greatly appreciated.

REPORTING FORM

Please complete it any day or time of the week, including weekends. The information will automatically come to Ms Uroda and Mrs Sammut.
