Learning in the classroom
And that's a wrap for SPOTLIGHT on Learning 2022. I hope you enjoyed seeing the wonderful learning experiences your children have been engaged in throughout the course of the year. A big thank you to our Year 6 students and teachers for their leadership, flexibility and Hollywood skills.
ASSESSMENT TASK AVAILABLE FOR YOU TO SEE ON THE COMPASS PORTAL?
Today you will be able to see an assessment task that your child has completed on COMPASS. You will see a learning intention, success criteria and a grade next to each success criteria from the classroom teacher. The learning intention comes from the NSW syllabus and the success criteria outlines how students can be successful with the task. Teachers will assign either Working Towards, Working At or Working Beyond for each success criteria. Your child will show you their completed assessment task on either Seesaw (K-2) or Google Classroom (3-6). This is another way we would like to engage you in what your child has been learning. We encourage you to ask your child to show you the task they completed on Seesaw or on Google Classroom and have a conversation with them about their learning. Please follow the steps in the attached document to see your child's assessment on compass. Please note that if your child has been absent for an extended period of time due to illness or a family holiday, they may not have this assessment visible if it was completed during their absence.
NUDE FOOD SUCCESS - WEEK 4 UPDATE. GET ON BOARD TO REDUCE SINGLE USE PACKAGING
We have officially launched NUDE FOOD at St Brigid's. This means we are encouraging all students to bring plastic free lunch and snacks to school each day. Our SRC, Stewardship and Justice Leaders will be leading this initiative. The SRC members from each class will tally up the amount of nude food lunch boxes brought to school on a random day during the week. There will be incentives for the classes who bring the most bring nude food lunches to school and these are:
- Each week the class that has the most nude food will be announced on assembly and will be awarded with the St Brigid's Peace Lily for their classroom for the week.
- During Weeks 3,6,9 the students who bring Nude Food in will receive a raffle ticket to go into the draw to win a special NUDE FOOD lunch-box. What a COOL prize.
- The class that has brought Nude Food to school the most throughout Term 3 will receive a reward of extra play and sampling some fresh produce from our school garden.
WEEK 4 NUDE FOOD RESULTS
Our SRC Chairperson, Cameron, Year 5 SRC Rep, Reed and Kindergarten SRC Rep, Leo J reported the Week 4 Nude Food results at the Friday assembly. Here they are:

CONGRATULATIONS KINDERGARTEN! You will receive the St Brigid's Peace Lily for Week 4. Best of luck to all classes for Week 5. During Week 5, there will be a bonus tally day. Students won't know which day the SRC members will be doing the tally, so remember to bring nude food to school everyday to be counted for your class. Week 6 is the MAGIC round, where all students who bring nude food to school will receive a raffle ticket to go into the draw to win an awesome nude food lunch box.
Please talk to your child/children about what nude food is and ask them to help prepare a nude food lunch-box. Some ideas are in the handout below. Our SRC will be showing the students examples of Nude Food lunch boxes. We thank you kindly for your support as we work together to care for our common home ... this beautiful planet.
RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS - STUDENT VOICE
Last term we continued our exploration of what a Safe and Respectful School looks like, sounds like and feels like. We consulted our students in the form of a survey to gather their thoughts and opinions on how safe and respected they felt at school. The teachers analysed this data last week and have come up with a plan for this term. All classes have started this term with defining what DISRESPECTFUL WORDS and BEHAVIOURS are and we will further explore the concept of respect as a non-negotiable during our Bullying No Way Day- Respect in Games. An outline of the plan for this term is as follows:
- A student consultation group to develop 'peer-to-peer relationships' expectations that will be explicitly taught to the whole school.
- A weekly focus of RESPECT to be announced by the Year 6 leaders at the assembly and this focus will then be taught through role play during the week and students who display this focus will be affirmed and awarded.
- Whole school exploration of CONSENT and understanding our own body boundary.
