As a school community, we ‘kicked off’ Socktober for Mission Month with a prayerful liturgy led by Year 6, with the theme, “You will be my witnesses”. In this liturgy, we heard the message from Pope Francis,

 Dear brothers and sisters!

These words were spoken by the Risen Jesus to his disciples just before his Ascension into heaven, as we learn from the Acts of the Apostles: “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth” (1:8)

It is a clear message that our responsibility, as children of God, is to respond to the need of others. In 2022, students and their families across Australia will raise funds to support families in Ethiopia facing malnutrition and food insecurity. Our fundraising will help sustain and enrich the lives of vulnerable children who are in need of our support.

The children have accepted a challenge to raise enough money to provide goats to the villages of Ethiopia. The goats provide essential nutrition for the children and extra milk can be made into cheese and butter or provided to local health clinics. Extra milk can be sold to other regions. Each goat costs $50 and each class will need to raise at least this amount to purchase a goat. The more money we raise, the more goats can be purchased.

sos7fc6xhpck8c8g.pngHow are we going to do this?WEDNESDAY 26 OCTOBER 2022 is World Children’s Mission Day and we are asking ALL students to come dressed in mufti with CRAZY SOCKS. A gold coin donation is expected for this privilege. On this day, the Year 6 leaders will be conducting a SOCKTOBER SHOOTOUT!
Children will pay $1 for three shots at goal. If all three goals are attained then a raffle ticket will be given. On Friday, at assembly, three winners will be drawn; one from ES1 and Stage 1, one from Stage 2, and one from Stage 3.
The prize is a new soccer ball!!!
