KINDERGARTEN, YEAR 1 AND YEAR 2 MATHEMATICS IMPROVEMENT

Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 teachers have been enaging in some exciting new learning in the area of Mathematics. Mathematical Reasoning is when students justify, explain and prove how they solve problems in maths. It involves lots of talk and interaction, drawing and the use of objects and concrete materials to help solve problems. The teachers have started this new new learning and this will be put into practice in the classroom this term in small group instruction, whole class teaching and roving student teacher conferences. We expect that the students will love learning Mathematics with this new contemporary and research based approach to learning mathematics.

RESPECT FOCUS WEEK 2 AND 3: It's NOT a Joke!

Each week, a new respect focus will be announced at the assembly and then this will be taught in classrooms everyday. Students learn what the respect focus is and is not and use scripts and role play to help them understand. I thank the Respectful Relationships Student Advisory group for leading this very important initiative and having a confident voice to speak up for respectful relationships.

It's NOT a Joke is:

- Owning up when you have said unkind or disrespectful words to someone

- Accepting that you have been disrespectful in your words or actions

- Understanding that when I am disrespectful, it is NEVER a joke

It's NOT a Joke is not:

- Saying unkind words to or about someone and when you get into trouble, saying ‘It was just a joke.’

- Saying “we were just having fun, I didn’t mean it.”

- Saying “everyone else was doing it too.”

Weekly Respect Focus - Term 4

  • Week 2-3 - It's NOT a Joke!
  • Week 4 - Consent
  • Week 5 - Respect at the toilets
  • Week 6 - Keep your hands, feet and objects to yourself
  • Week 7 - Healthy Relationships
  • Week 8 - Disagreeing Respectfully
  • Week 9 - Saying Sorry

LIDS FOR KIDS UPDATE

At the end of Term 3, our Stewardship Leader, Raen presented to the school an update on how many lids for kids the community donated. Please see Raen's report below:

Thank you for your wonderful efforts in helping to make prosthetic limbs for people who need them. A gude thank you to Raen and her family who have taken on this intiative, sorting and donating the lids on our behalf. What an amazing missionary effort from the St Brigid's community. Please continue to bring in the lids, cleaning them first.
