CHRISTMAS STORY ART COMPETITION 2024
The Christmas Story Art Exhibition and Competition is an initiative of the Catholic Education Office in Wollongong, designed to celebrate and explore children’s creative and artistic ability in illustrating the Christmas story. The subject matter is drawn from the Religious Education Curriculum and includes additional verses from the Gospel of Matthew.
At St Brigid’s, we are fortunate that we have such committed and talented staff who lead this initiative to ensure that the competition provides our Year 5 and 6 students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the arts in Religious Education.
Eliza Petre - Year 6 2023
Over the coming weeks, our Year 5 and 6 students will create artworks that reflect an understanding and interpretation of one of the scripture verses that also includes authentic imagery from the time of Jesus. This imagery can be represented in any style. Students can consider tableware, clothing, architecture, vegetation, food and other aspects of their visual representation of the scriptures.
A selection of works from both Year 5 and 6 will be made based on set criteria which will then be judged alongside works from other schools within our diocese. The artworks that are judged to have best responded to the criteria will be hung in the Wollongong City Art Gallery.
The exhibition will be open to the public from October 4 - October 27, 2024.
SOUTH COAST ATHLETICS
On Tuesday 13 August very rainy conditions at Kerryn McCann Athletic Centre at Beaton Park greeted our 23 athletic representatives and their families. The St Brigid's girls and boys were ready for a day of tough competition as they were up against the very best from other Catholic Primary Schools in the diocese.
Track and field events including 100m, 200m, 800m, 4 x 100m relays, long jump, high jump, shot put and discus in various age groups were on offer for our students to compete in. Our girls and boys put in a wonderful effort trying their best and never giving up.
Although St Brigid's students faced strong competition throughout the day, we had two students who came fourth in their event and will compete again on Tuesday 20 August for selection in the Wollongong team for the MacKillop trials. Congratulations on your achievement. We are proud to inform you that Bethany M will compete in shot put and David M will compete in discus. The 1500m will also be run on this day and Ted F has qualified for this event. As we congratulate these students, we also wish them well for their upcoming events.
Thank you to the parents and other family members who braved the conditions to come along and support not only their child but other Sy Brigid's students as well. It was great to see you there and I'm sure your child(ren) appreciated you cheering them on.
Ms Sparks
