Improving Writing at St Brigid's

We are creating a Writer's Community at St Brigid's where teachers are focussing on improving the way they teach writing in order to see greater growth in student learning. Teachers have been engaged in  collaborative inquiry processes throughout Term 1, which involved: analysing current and trend student learning data; gathering evidence of student learning and then spending a day learning together last Monday, working on new writing pedagogies and teaching strategies. So far the Year 1 and Year 2 teachers have engaged in a co-teaching cycle with myself as the Instructional Coach to implement some of these strategies. The students have been the beneficiaries of this work and we are starting to see some growth in student learning. Each teacher will have an opportunity to engage in a co-teaching cycle, where they co-plan, co-teach and co-evaluate their writing lesson with me. Check out some of the Year 1 and Year 2 writing samples. Well done writers!

Year 1 writing like authors, experimenting with statements, questions and exclamations.
