PRINCIPAL'S REFLECTION
This week, Pope Francis invited Catholic communities around the world to participate in Laudato Si’ Week 2022. Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’ challenges us to Care for Our Common Home by growing in faith, hope, and love. To live in healthy relationships with God, neighbour, and all creation.
The theme for this week was “Listening and Journeying Together.” The eight-day global event was guided by the following quote from Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’: “Bringing the human family together to protect our common home” (LS 13).
We are called to be ecological citizens, to make wise decisions, and to take bold actions. In the matter of climate change, we are cautioned to reduce emissions of pollutants like carbon dioxide when it is in our control. By doing so we will nurture and support human life in all its stages, as well as protect the goodness and beauty of God’s great gift of the natural environment. In short, living Laudato Si’ embodies the common good.
St Brigid's our gospel value of STEWARDSHIP calls us to "live our faith in relationship with all of God's creation by being proactive stewards, taking responsibility for the care of our common home and one another."
We take this very seriously and are continually looking for ways to care for our common home.
PRAYER FOR THE EARTH
All-powerful God, you are present in the whole universe
and in the smallest of your creatures.
You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.
Pour out upon us the power of your love,
that we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us with peace, that we may live
as brothers and sisters, harming no one.
O God of the poor,
help us to rescue the abandoned
and forgotten of this earth,
so precious in your eyes.
Bring healing to our lives,
that we may protect the world and not prey on it,
that we may sow beauty,
not pollution and destruction.
Touch the hearts
of those who look only for gain
at the expense of the poor and the earth.
Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,
to be filled with awe and contemplation,
to recognise that we are profoundly united
with every creature
as we journey towards your infinite light.
We thank you for being with us each day.
Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle
for justice, love and peace.
