SEMESTER ONE ACADEMIC REPORTS

At the end of Week 9 the student academic reports for Years 1-6 will be made available via Compass. The reports will outline achievement in all Key Learning Areas using the A-E common Grade Scale. Teachers make professional, on-balance judgements by considering all evidence available about a student's learning in a particular Key Learning Area to determine the grade that it currently represents, considering the Outcomes appropriate to that Stage. According to the Common Grade Scale, a 'C' grade is considered Sound. That is, if awarded a C grade in any Key Learning Area, the student has demonstrated that they have gained the knowledge, skills and understanding expected of them at point in time. Teachers will also provide comments in English, Mathematics and Religious Education and a General Comment.
Parent/Teacher Interviews will be offered for all grades includeing Kindergarten. These will take place during Week 10 and will be either via teleconference or face-to-face. Bookings for the interviews can be made via Compass and will go live soon.

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING AT ST BRIGID'S
As well as literacy and numeracy, children must also learn social-emotional skills like managing emotions, practicing self-discipline, setting goals, and making decisions. The process of teaching and practicing these skills is called "social emotional learning" (SEL).

SEL has plenty of benefits for students, ranging from improved school performance to healthier friendships and relationships and an increased ability to cope with life's challenges. At St Brigid's we are commited to helping our students develop the social and emotional competeencies such as:

  • self awareness
  • social awareness
  • self management
  • relationship skills
  • -esponisble decision making

Teachers have gathered data on their students and have determined a focus for teaching these SEL skills through their English programs, incorporating quality literature to adresss relationship skills, resilience, problem solving, friendships, emotions and self-awareness. SEL ties in beautifully with the practice of Christian Meditation that occurs daily at St Brigid's and the current Personal Development and Health syllabus.

If you would like to explore SEL and support your child with these essential skills and learning, please visit the following website.

HUMPTY DUMPTY CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION CONTINUED

Week 3 of the Great Humpty Dumpty Crime is well underway with the investigation progressing to the forensic lab where the forensic investigators dusted a piece of Humpty's shell (exhibit A) for fingerprints. We have concluded that the are seven suspects and all of them are in Year 6. We believe that two of these suspects are the perpetrators who commited the crime of taking Humpty off his wall and in the process, dropping him and cracking his shell. This week we will conduct the interrogation of the suspects (Year 6 students) with police interviews taking place by Police Investigators (Kindergarten students). We aee getting very close to solving the mystery of what happened to Humpty Dumpty.
