Last Sunday, the Church celebrated the Feast of Corpus Christi, a day that provides an opportinuty for us to focus on Christ's real presence in the Eucharist. As Pope Francis reminds us, "Every year the feast of Corpus Christi invites us to renew the wonder and joy for this wonderful gift of the Lord, which is the Eucharist".
The Sacrament of Eucharist is at the very centre of our faith. Each time we celebrate Mass we remember and reenact the institution of the Sacrament of Eucharist at the Last Supper and celebrate Christ's presence in the world today. During my short time here at St Brigid's I was extremely priviledged to join Years 1 and 5 for a Thursday morning Parish Mass and to once again share Eucharist with members of St Brigid's Parish and School. Sharing Eucharist together is at the very heart of our Catholic identity here at St Brigid's and I would encourage parents, who are able, to join with their children for worship at the weekly Thursday Parish Mass commencing at 9.30am.
The Eucharist will hold special significance this year, for our Year 3 students who are invited to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation and the Sacrament of Eucharist for the first time next term. Receiving the Sacraments is a very blessed time in our journey of faith, and one that continues to nourish us through our lives.
Sacramental Program Term 3 - The Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Sacrament of Eucharist.
Important Date: Parent Information Evening, Monday 17 July commencing at 6.30pm at St Brigid's School Hall.
School Term Dates
As we approach the end of Term two, I thank you for your continued support of our school and wish you and your families a restful student vacation break.
The last day of this term is Friday 30th June and Term 3 commences for students and teachers on Monday 17th July 2023.
The Bishop of Wollongong, Most Rev. Brian Mascord DD, has published a new document on the nature and purpose of Catholic schools in our diocese. Titled Bearers of Christ’s Love — Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Wollongong, this document is the first of its type in our diocese since the 1970s.
In it, Bishop Brian explores the purpose of Catholic schools as an expression of the Church experience, as well as the vital connection between schools, parents/carers, parishes, and the diocese itself.
Throughout the document, Bishop Brian reiterates:
- The significant role Catholic schools play in the evangelising mission of the Church and the nurturing of students’ faith.
- The commitment of Catholic educators to complement and support the educational rights and duties of parents as their child’s first educator.
- The essential requirement for Catholic schools to be places of educational excellence, where learning, wellbeing and actions of outreach and service are integrated in a holistic educational vision and practice.
- That Catholic schools are places where those seeking a Catholic education are welcome, reflecting the diverse mix of cultures, nationalities and religious traditions that currently make up our school communities.
I encourage you to take the time to watch the short video from Bishop Brian and read this important document on the Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong website.
