Dear Parents and friends,
Pentecost - Continuing the Mission of Jesus
This Sunday, we celebrate with our Church the great feast of Pentecost. We remember the disciples, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, gathered together after Jesus’ death. The Apostles and disciples were gathered in fear, not knowing what they were to do after the death of their leader and teacher.
After the coming of the Holy Spirit, whom Jesus had promised before he left them, the disciples were filled with great strength and wisdom. They were empowered to go out, preaching, teaching and healing in the way that Jesus had shown them. They were reminded of the mission which Jesus had begun and which he expected them to continue in his name.
At St Brigid’s, this term, there is a particular emphasis on our Catholic value of Service: We are called to respond actively to God’s mission as servant leaders, by reaching out to others - especially the needy as Jesus did. With many of our students also being confirmed this weekend, we will again be witnesses to the presence of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Pentecost, in our lives and those of our children. With the gifts of the Spirit, bestowed at Confirmation, we are reminded and empowered to go forth, as Jesus directed, to reach out to others in the spirit of Service.
Congratulations to the following students who will seal their Baptismal calling this evening as Bishop Brian Mascord confirms them: Jazhara McCann, Nathan Anderson, Harper Davidson, Sally Foster, Henry Jones, Zane Mayberry, Ruby Jackson, Noelia St Archangel, Milli Gajic, Breanna Kouzan and Jonah Moretti.

When you send forth your Spirit, they are created -And you renew the face of the earth. (Psalm 104, 29-30)
Yours in Faith, Justice and Learning

Thank you to Mrs Arthur-Worsop for preparing the liturgy and to our student cantors and readers who very capably led us in prayer.

After morning tea with the staff, the Leadership Team headed to classrooms for Learning Walks and Talks. There was absolutely fabulous personalised learning in action in every classroom: Challenging Maths Tasks, English choice tasks, coding actiivites, STEM activities, students negotiating their learning and articulating their personal goals and success criteria.

VINNIES HAND-ME-UPS STUDENT REPORT
On Thursday, 23 May, a student delegation from Year 5 visited the North Wollongong Vinnies site, and toured the store, hearing from representatives of the different areas of Vinnies, and learning about the importance of good quality donations. We were

fortunate to have Peter Cooney, from the Gwynneville Conference explaining his role and that of the members of the Gwynneville Conference in giving others from our local area a ”hand up”.
The students learnt that – donating good quality items to Vinnies is good for the people in need and the environment. The donations help to get money to assist with the purchase of food, mattresses etc and to recycle, reuse and reduce landfill.
There is a dark side to donating. Across all stores in the Wollongong Diocese it costs over $160000 a year just to get rid of rubbish. About 50% of this is illegal dumping, and about 50% are donations that can’t be used. Tonnes of waste going into landfill.
Many Vinnies volunteers have to get rid of a whole skip bin each week and it costs about $160 each time to get the skip bin emptied. That’s the equivalent of one weeks’ worth of food and groceries for a family of four!
That’s why everything that is donated must be clean and of good quality.
IF YOU WOULDN’T GIVE IT TO A FRIEND THEN DON’T GIVE IT TO VINNIES!
The students will be conducting a week-long fundraising effort to collect as many good quality items that will fit in the Vinnies Bin, that will be in our school grounds from Monday 17/6 to Friday 21/6.
Below is a guide for you. So get a bag together and send it in so that we can Hand it on to Vinnies.

Gala Days - A Reminder
As a reminder to parents, carers and students, the main focus of ALL Gala Days is PARTICIPATION. It’s an opportunity for students to learn about a sport, practice skills and have fun with others while involving themselves in physical activity. Scores are not recorded and results are not given to any officials on ANY of the days. There are no finals or trophies and this is not a pathway for representation. Children should be encouraged to try their best and show good sportsmanship while enjoying their sporting experience with teammates.
