Dear Year 6 Parents and friends,
Speech given by Ms Uroda to the Year 6 Graduates
Congratulations, Year 6 2020, you have prevailed! In order to prevail, to be victorious, to be successful, to say “We did it!” during this most difficult year, you have had to demonstrate perseverance; to take satisfaction from achieving one step at a time in order to reach your goals. I might suggest that the same has been true for all of us - your parents, your families, your teachers, and other significant people in your lives, during this past year.
None of us has ever been faced with challenges like those that 2020 brought us. What courage you displayed, Year 6, as you were faced with learning in new ways and maintaining friendships in ways that you never had before.
Your call to compassion was never more needed than during this year, with so many, in our own lives and beyond, calling out for our support and not to be forgotten during the challenges of this year. You continued to respond and act in love.
As stewards of Creation, you continued to practise and learn about the care of our precious planet. You have learnt more about the importance of responding to the ever-growing needs of our precious earth as it struggles with human impact. I feel confident that Year 6 2020 will take this knowledge and commitment into the future on our behalf.
By reaching out to others, friends and family included, being the best person you could be against many obstacles, you have demonstrated the value of service in many small but significant ways. Perhaps only you and those you served in this way are aware of the impact that you have had.
You have prevailed, Year 6! This year that will never be forgotten and which challenged us in so many ways has not set you back. You persevered in sometimes difficult circumstances. It has been noted that you, as a group, have achieved your final year of primary education without complaint, with a positive attitude, and with a joy that others have been able to observe and share. Thank you, for demonstrating how, despite change and difficulties, we can prevail, as you have done, with the values of Compassion, Stewardship, Courage and Service underpinning our choices and actions.
Congratulations Year 6... you have prevailed! (Speech given by Ms Uroda to the Year 6 Graduates 15 December 2020)
