A very warm welcome back to Term 4. There are lots of exciting faith, justice and learning opportunities planned for the remainder of the year. Please ensure you read the newsletter and compass alerts to keep abreast of the ways in which you can be involved in the life of the school.
Australia celebrates World Teachers Day on Friday 27 October 2023. The New South Wales Education Standard Authority (NESA) invites you to take your child to go on a treasure hunt for teaching gems in NSW. A gem is a teacher you care about, past or present, who motivates and inspires you and others. Follow this link to find your gem!
AITSL is also shouting out to school communities to celebrate Australia’s teachers for their skilled work in educating, inspiring and supporting our students.
On a sadder note, once again, we find ourselves shocked and preoccupied with terrible events of conflict in our world. The war in the Middle East has once again flared, with many innocent people, including children, caught up in the worst of human behaviour.
Here at home, in Australia, we too have been grappling with how best to assist our indigenous people, the first peoples of this land, to have improved and more equitable lives in the future. Again, in the lead-up to last week’s referendum, we have witnessed the best and worst of human behaviour in our own daily lives.
We must, at times like this, remind ourselves that God loves each and every one of us equally. No one race or individual is ‘better’ or more worthy in His loving eyes. The words and actions we choose when discussing these matters or interacting with others demonstrate the kind of person we are and the underlying values that guide us.
Most of us would be feeling that our world, and indeed our own nation, is in great need of peace and justice. The solution to our troubles can seem so very difficult to achieve when hatred, greed and bigotry are the obstacles. If we truly want peace in the world, let us begin as Jesus would have asked us, by loving one another in our own families and in the communities in which we live and function daily.
The words of understanding and peace that we speak and the example we set through our actions have great power to influence those around us, especially our children. As Christians, we who seek and pray for peace are reminded:
Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. (Psalms 34: 12-14)
In the weeks ahead, we continue to pray for peace and justice in our world and in our own country, that our leaders may be guided by the value of love of humankind, and the desire for justice and peace for all.

LAUDATE DEUM (PRAISE GOD)
On 4 October 2023, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, Pope Francis published an apostolic exhortation, Laudate Deum (Praise God). He reminds us that St. Francis exclaimed “Praise God for all His creatures” and that Jesus had a sensitivity towards the natural world.
In Laudate Deum, Pope Francis provides an update on the situation eight years on from Laudato Si’ and the news is not good. The world is already in the early stages of climate catastrophe. He states that ecological concerns are intimately connected to the dignity of human life and that our care for each other and care for creation are bound together.

MISSION MONTH - SOCKTOBER
Pope Francis' Message for World Mission Sunday 2023
“Hearts on Fire, Feet on the Move" (Luke 24:13-35). So let us set out once more, illumined by our encounter with the risen Lord and prompted by his Spirit. Let us set out again with burning hearts, with our eyes open and our feet in motion. Let us set out to make other hearts burn with the word of God, to open the eyes of others to Jesus in the Eucharist, and to invite everyone to walk together on the path of peace and salvation that God, in Christ, has bestowed upon all humanity.
On Friday 27 October 2023 we will be fundraising for Catholic Mission to assist them with their work in Timor-Leste and other areas of need. The children will wear mufti, a jersey if they have one, and donate a gold coin.
Throughout the day, the classes will have the opportunity to participate in the Socktober Shootout. Each class will tally up the amount of goals their class achieves after each member has one shot at goal, then the class with the most goals will have the privilege of playing soccer on the oval. A gold coin donation will be appreciated for a shot at goal.
And so we pray…
Loving God we pray for Pope Francis, that he will continue to lead the world towards, mercy, tenderness, healing, peace, and security.
We pray for our world leaders. That they may heed upon the urgency of climate change, and work towards creating a brighter and more sustainable world for future generations.
We pray for the Church in Timor-Leste, that it will continue to work in harmony with its culture and people.
We pray for peace in the midst of violence and injustice in this world. Strengthen us to advocate in solidarity with all people experiencing injustice. May we have the patience to be understanding, the courage to forgive, and the grace to admit when we are wrong.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Cricket Gala Day
"On Thursday the 12 October 2023, the Year 6 boys participated in the Cricket Gala Day at Thomas Dalton Park. The weather was challenging but we managed to push through the scorching weather without too much exhaustion! We all loved hitting absolute bombs out of the boundary. It was so much fun, even for the people who had never played before. Out of the eleven players, only 2 had been involved with a cricket competition outside of school. Matthew invented a new batting style, the one-handed bat! It was very effective! One of the outstanding aspects of the day was the team's great sportsmanship. We showed this by supporting our players and the other teams. A big thank you to Mrs Roche and Mrs Eckermann for taking care of us and getting us ice cream for all our hard work. It was delicious. I think we all had fun cheering from the sidelines, we were definitely the loudest team their! We all had a blast and this was a great way to finish our primary school gala days".
