Dear Parents and friends,
R U OK?
Jesus said:
“I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10).”
There is no doubt this year has been one like no other. As COVID-19 continues to impact the health and well-being of many Australians, it is more important than ever to take a moment to check up on your loved ones, and learn to recognise the signs.
During Suicide Prevention Month, which started yesterday with R U OK? Day, we are encouraged to ask those in our lives the simple question of whether they are okay, giving them an invitation to speak about their struggles.
While we are often quite good at recognising and empathising with the physical suffering of others, we can often be oblivious to their internal sufferings, because we cannot see them.
If we are called to be the presence of Christ in the world, then our outreach to others needs to be one which assists them in having life in abundance. This week and month let's take a few minutes in our busy lives to let those around you know they’re appreciated and that we are there to help.
- Simply ask someone, “Are you OK?”.
- Really listen to their response. Let them know you’re there to help them and that they are really being heard.
- Encourage action as sufferers of mental health issues can find it difficult to seek help on their own.
- Follow up with the person you have helped. Let them know you’re still there to help.
As Don Ritchie, Angel of the gap said, "Never be afraid to speak to those who you feel are in need. Always remember the power of the simple smile, a helping hand, a listening ear and a kind word.”
Yours in Faith, Justice and Learning

Students in Year 3 and 4 focus on ‘building fundamental movement proficiencies’. They combine the elements of effort, space, objects and people to perform movement sequences. Students learn how to perform safe landings, balances, rotations, jumps, swings and sequences with others.
Students in Year 5 and 6 focus on ‘advancing movement proficiencies’. The advanced movement proficiencies provide a sound basis for involvement in a wide range of sport and recreational pursuits. The students learn how to control different landings, dynamic and static balances, spinning and turning, jumping and flight and performing quality movement sequences.

SEASON OF CREATION
Reading: Matthew 5: 13 - 19
You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives out light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify God in heaven.
Reflection on the Gospel
In this reading we learn that we are called to be salt for the earth and light for the world. In 2020, with the global environmental crisis and coronavirus pandemic that we face, how can we as individuals and as a global community truly be agents of change and action where we shine the light of love and healing on those places of darkness? This is our challenge and our task. We pray for strength and passion to be this good news and light for the world.

SUNDAY REFLECTION:
Sunday 13 September 2020 |
24 SUNDAY in ORDINARY TIME Forgive Others The Kingdom of Heaven is like a king who decided to settle his accounts. A servant owed him millions and could not pay, so the King ordered him to be sold as a slave. The servant pleaded for mercy, and the King, filled with pity, forgave him and let him go. The servant went out and saw another servant who owed him a few dollars, demanding that he pay. When the man pleaded for mercy, he had him thrown in jail. Hearing this, the King was angry and sent for the servant to be punished. |

25 SUNDAY in ORDINARY TIME The First Shall be Last Jesus said the Kingdom of Heaven is like this. A farmer goes out at dawn and hires workers. He promises them one silver coin each for the day's work. Later he sees some more men and he hires them, and more again at lunchtime. At the end of the day, he pays each worker one silver coin. Those who worked all day were angry, but the farmer said, "Are you jealous because I am generous? I paid you what I promised." Jesus concluded, "The last shall be first and the first shall be last." |

EXPLAINING STUDENT ABSENCES IN COMPASS

A reminder to please log into your parent portal and provide a detailed explanation for any full day absences for your child/children. If you have completed the Respiratory Illness google form, you will still be required to enter an explanation into Compass.
Please do not email the school office with your absence explanation as a detailed explanation in your Child's Compass portal will be sufficient.
You do not need to enter partial absences in Compass as this will be done from the school office when the student arrives or departs.
LATE ARRIVALS - if your child arrives after 8:50am the partial absence will be entered as unexplained. As parents are not coming on site of a morning you will need to send an email or phone the office to explain the late arrival.
If you have any questions regarding any of this information please contact the school office.

RESPIRATORY ILLNESS REPORTING FORM
GOOGLE FORM
Your support in ensuring the health and safety of the St Brigid’s Community during this global pandemic is evident in the growing number of students who are either staying home with respiratory illness and/or being tested for COVID-19. We really appreciate your vigilance with this.
It is compulsory for us to keep a detailed register of the process from symptoms to medical clearance, and so, it is crucial we know when your child develops symptoms BEFORE they are tested for COVID-19. To make this easier for you to communicate all the information that we need, we have developed a google form that will only take 30 seconds to complete and submit.
This google form can be found on the St Brigid’s website, as a link in the Brigid Bulletin and by clicking the link in the COMPASS newsfeed.
Please complete it any day or time of the week, including weekends. The information will automatically come to the Ms Uroda and Mrs Benoit.
