Dear Parents and Friends,
The Feast of the Immaculate Conception which we celebrated on 8 December is the most prominent Marion Feast Day of the Catholic Church.
It is a day in which we acknowledge that Mary was conceived and came into the world without the stain and corruption of original sin, as through the Sacrament of Baptism we are freed from sin.
The Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary, “Hail Mary, full of grace! The Lord is with you.” Luke 1:28.
We all strive to be full of “grace”, to be pure in our thoughts and actions. A goal which can be difficult to achieve in our modern world, which champions the individual over the common good.
Even though Mary was chosen by God and was a pure and sinless person, she was afraid and felt unworthy of what was being asked of her. She felt the same anxiety and lack of confidence that we all feel at times.
“Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God.” Luke 1:30.
In recent times we have all faced fear and continue to struggle with anxieties as we journey through the global health crisis.
In our fear and anxiety and as our plans go awry, we may ask, ‘What does God want from us? Why is this happening to me? Why are our lives being disrupted?
We need to listen, as Mary did, to God’s call. To do what is being asked of us, to do what is right and good for all of society. To show patience and understanding of others, to shoulder disappointments gracefully and to show kindness and support for one another.
As Catholics, we ask our Blessed Mother Mary to intercede for us, to pray for help and guidance, as she bestows the many graces from God.
“Hail Mary, full of grace! The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.”
May I take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for another wonderful and productive school year, despite the ongoing challenges of the global pandemic. I am particularly appreciative of everything you did as parents and carers to assist with remote online learning; adhering to the many COVID-19 procedures so that everyone in our community remained safe and healthy; and for supporting the countless restrictions that have been placed on schools, particularly primary schools who are deemed as high risk environments.
A huge thank you to the St Brigid’s leadership team, teaching and support staff who are extraordinary professionals, assisting me each and everyday to create a culture at St Brigid’s that is welcoming, life giving and where excellence in faith and learning is our goal.
A final word to the St Brigid’s students: Thank you for all your hard work throughout the school year. I am grateful for your joy, intelligent insights and amazing talents. Best wishes to our graduating Year 6 students, whom we will miss greatly.
Until we meet again for the 2022 school year, I wish you a blessed Christmas and lots of love, laughter and good times in the New Year.
Yours in Faith, Justice and Learning

A large number of St Brigid's students completed the 2021 NSW Premier's Reading Challenge and received a certificate of achievement from The Hon. Dominic Perrottet, Premier of NSW.
A special congratulations to Edwina J in Year 6 who received the NSW Premier's Challenge Platinum Award for her seventh successful year. What a fabulous achievement. Hopefully this will inspire more students at St Brigid's towards such an achievement.

ORDER YOUR ST BRIGID'S SCHOOL BAG NOW
The St Brigid's school bag has been a compulsory school item for the past 3 years and part of the school uniform requirements. A long transition period was afforded families, therefore, if you intend replacing your child's school bag for 2022, it must now be a St Brigid's school bag. The quality, size and ergonomic features of the bag make it a very good choice and an investment that will last from Kinder - Year 6. The bag can be ordered on Qkr!

HO HO HO IT'S CHRISTMAS FUN DAY!
Christmas FUN DAY was so much fun! We had Santas, Reindeer, Christmas angels, gingerbread men and about 50 of my cousin elves from the North Pole. Thankyou to our Year 6 students who created AMAZING Christmas dance videos for the whole school to enjoy. The students had a fun day of arts and crafts, dancing, Christmas carols, pizza, ice blocks and candy canes. To top off the fantastic day, the rain pelted down at 2:30pm making dismissal quite interesting for staff, students and parents alike. Please enjoy the Year 6 DANCE videos below.

CHRISTMAS FUN DAY and FUNDRAISING
A fun day was had by all, as Santas, elves, angels and Christmas decorated students gathered for our last fundraising effort for the year. Tubs were overflowing with the many generous donations from our families.
All the food items have now been organised, ready for our local St Vincent de Paul conference to package them and distribute the hampers to the most needy in our Gwynneville /Keiraville area.
REFLECTIONS
Sunday 12 December Third Sunday of Advent |
We are at the midpoint of Advent. Today we celebrate Gaudete Sunday. The principal theme of the day is joy. According to Paul, joy is one of the fruits of the Spirit (cf. Gal 5:22). Such joy is a religious sentiment, not emotional happiness. Along with gratitude, it is the heart’s response to God’s goodness. Zion is told to shout for joy because it has been saved by God from its enemies and because God is in the midst of the people. The psalm response proclaims the same message; the reading from Philippians announces that the Lord is near. This is cause for joy. Advent is a time for joy, not primarily because we are anticipating the anniversary of the birth of Christ, but because God is already in our midst (Immanuel). The readings for this Sunday assure us that God is with us, not as a judge but as a Saviour. We rejoice over the saving acts of God that make us confident of God’s care and unafraid of whatever may cross our paths. We rejoice in the peace of God that surpasses all understanding. Advent joy is like the delight that fills a woman who has just given birth, even if it occurred in the throes of birth pangs. Advent joy springs from the realisation that the presence of God in our midst can so transform our lives that the promises of peace and security will be fulfilled. Advent joy is the way we live in the tension between already and not yet. © Dianne Bergant CSA |
Sunday 19 December Fourth Sunday of Advent |
There is always excitement at this time of the year. It is as if everything is filled with promise. Animosities are set aside; estrangement dissolves into reconciliation; the whole world seems gentler; and we are filled with the spirit of generosity. In the days just before Christmas, the possibility of newness is almost palpable. The spirit of the season has caught hold of us even before the actual day has arrived. Today we stand on the threshold of fulfilment. The future that God has prepared for us is open before us, even though we have not yet stepped out into it. The incarnation takes place in human history, thus affirming the fundamental goodness of human life and concerns, and sanctifying them even further. The child comes from simple people, from a place that is relatively insignificant, thus underscoring God’s preference for what is ordinary. The body that was offered for our salvation, the body that consecrated us through having been offered up, was the body that grew in the womb of Mary. The extraordinary salvific deed of God was accomplished through his coming into the world as one of us. The obedience that Christ played out through his body fulfilled for us the promises made by God. We stand on the threshold of fulfilment, the fulfilment of an event that has already taken place. We ritually reenact it so that we never take it for granted, so that we never forget that it is in and through human history that the marvellous deeds of God are accomplished. © Dianne Bergant CSA |
Christmas Reflection
Joyful peace is the atmosphere of the birth of Jesus. Nonetheless, the peace arises amid the darker realities of life: 'there was no room for them at the inn'.
Peace and joy are messages that we badly need today. More than ever we need to know that the light of Christ shines in the darkness.
I wish all our families a happy and holy Christmas.
Thank you for all the support you have given to ensuring that our Catholic values of compassion, courage, service and stewardship are followed and lived through actions and words.
