Meditation is a universal spiritual wisdom and a practice found at the core of all the great religious traditions, particularly Benedictine spirituality, which is the charism of our school. It leads us from mind to heart and to the integration of these two centres of human being.
The two doves on a chalice is the WCCM's symbol. It is a universal expression of the union of contemplation and action. A very ancient text describes them as 'two sweet friends' and the same idea is found in the story of Martha and Mary in the Gospel. Meditation in daily life is the heart of the WCCM Community: the experience of Being as the foundation of all Action.
The students and staff are building their capacity for silence and stillness in the simplicity of this practice, as they meditate with the word maranatha.
“Heavenly Father, open our hearts to the silent presence of the spirit of your Son. Lead us into that mysterious silence where your love is revealed to all who call, ‘Maranatha…Come, Lord Jesus”. WCCM Meditation Opening Prayer

ST VINCENT DE PAUL WINTER APPEAL
Preferential Option for the PoorA basic moral test is how our most vulnerable members are faring. In a society marred by deepening divisions between rich and poor, our tradition instructs us to put the needs of poor and vulnerable people first.
The primary purpose of this special commitment to the poor is to enable them to become active participants in the life of society. It is to enable all persons to share in and contribute to the common good. The "option for the poor," therefore, is not an adversarial slogan that pits one group or class against another. Rather it states that the deprivation and powerlessness of the poor wounds the whole community. The extent of their suffering is a measure of how far we are from being a true community of persons. These wounds will be healed only by greater solidarity with the poor and among the poor themselves. (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, 88).
Our commitment this term has been to supoporting the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. I am very pleased to announce that we raised a total of $1246.12 in cash donations and 247 cans of soup. Our efforts will go a long way in helping St Vincent de Paul meet the needs of so many in our local community who are doing it tough this winter. Thank you to all our families for your generosity in giving to those who are in most need.
KINDERGARTEN CLASS OF 2022
Letters of offer will be posted early next week for 28 families who are seeking enrolment at St Brigid's in 2022. Of the 28 families we will welcome 18 new families to St Brigid's next year.
ROAD SAFETY - CHILDREN'S CROSSING
The crossing on Vickery Street is a part-time children’s crossing that operates during school zone hours.
When a children’s crossing is operating, it’s marked by orange flags at both sides. When you see the flags, you must slow down and give way to pedestrians. You must remain at a complete stop until all pedestrians have left the crossing.
If the flags are not displayed, it’s not operating as a children’s crossing and the right of way is with the vehicle.
The orange flags are visible Monday - Friday throughout the school term to signal that it is a children's crossing. Please be mindful that it is not manned by a trained NSW crossing supervisor and, therefore, it is reliant on motorists observing the road rules and giving way to pedestrians.
A huge thank you to Claude Spinelli from Pro Sound and Lightning for supplying all the sound and lighting equipment for the disco in addition to his amazing DJ skills. Your generosity in supporting this event each year is very much appreciated. Thank you also to Rebecca Armstrong and Lucy Kelly who coordinated this P&F event. There were also lots of parent volunteers supervising on the night- thank you for keeping the students safe and focused on their dance moves!

CONGRATULATIONS MRS ARTHUR-WORSOP
Last Friday, Mr Peter Cooney, the President of the Gywnneville St Vincent de Paul Conference, presented Mrs Arthur-Worsop with the Emmanuel Bailly Award for appreciation of Teacher Leadership. This award is in recognition of the commitment she has shown in leading students in social justice and community service activities at St Brigid's. Mrs Arthur-Worsop graciously acknowledged that her leadership and social justice work relied upon the generosity of the families in our wonderful community. It is a great achievement for Mrs Arthur-Worsop and our whole community.

Sunday 13 June Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time |
The readings today remind us that poetic imagery is an apt way of describing the mysterious presence of God in our midst. The cedar began as a seedling that takes years to grow into a magnificent tree. The same is true of the mustard tree. It too requires time to develop its trunk and branches. The development of moral integrity in a human being is just as gradual. Rooted in God, it flourishes in God's presence and it produces fruit even into old age. Although God is present in all things, sustaining them and allowing them to follow their natural courses, God really transcends all things. Metaphorical language may be the best means for speaking about God and the things of God. It enables us to live in the tension that both reveals something about God and conceals God's real nature. The reign of God also begins in very ordinary circumstances, and it matures gradually until it has spread itself far and wide. Although the mystery of the reign of God unfolds within human history, we need eyes of faith to recognise it. Like the cedar and the mustard seed, it grows within the concreteness of human experience. Just as the life force that thrusts the branches of the trees further and further out cannot itself be seen, so the reign of God is mysterious, even incomprehensible. Still, it is there, inviting us, urging us to move forward, transforming our world. © Dianne Bergant CSA |
Sunday 20 June Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time |
Paul insists that the love of Christ completely transforms us, mind and heart. No longer do we judge according to human standards. No longer do we meet injury with assault. No longer do we relegate people to the margins of society, or hoard the goods that others need to survive. Everything is changed in this new worldview. We understand ourselves and our world differently. Most importantly, we perceive God differently. Job’s new insights enlightened his understanding of creation, of the Creator, and of himself, a finite creature. Several of the disciples were seasoned fishermen. They knew that sea quite well. Living close to Jesus, they knew him too. Now they saw him in a different light. In both cases, faith opened their eyes. Like the disciples, we begin to realise that this man who shares in all of our human vulnerability is able to direct the power of the Creator. We need eyes of faith to recognise the power of God at work in the events of our lives. Like Job, faith moves us from viewing God as a deity who is so distant from us that the circumstances of our lives appear to be irrelevant, to realising that everything is ultimately in God's hands and everything follows the course on which God has set it. For our part, all we can or need do is entrust ourselves to this loving God who cares if even a sparrow falls to the ground. © Dianne Bergant CSA |
