Dear Parents, Carers and Friends,
In this Sunday's Gospel reading of the parable of the Rich Fool, Jesus instructs his disciples and the crowd on how to be ready for the coming judgement. A crowd of many thousands has gathered to hear Jesus. At first he speaks only to the disciples, reminding them that it is not persecution they should fear but the judgement that is coming for all who do not acknowledge the Son of Man. Suddenly a man in the crowd shouts out to Jesus, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” He seems to have grown tired of Jesus speaking only to the disciples. Jesus offers the man no help. Instead he uses the question to teach what, in light of the coming judgement, life really consist of.
Jesus tells the crowd a parable. A rich man's lands have yielded more crops than expected. His response is not to consider how he might share all the extra food with others but to wonder how he can possibly store it all. He has what he thinks is a brilliant idea: to tear down his present barns and build larger ones. Then he will have many things stored up for years of eating, drinking, and making merry.
“You fool” is God's response to this man because that very night his life will be taken away. To whom will everything belong then, God asks. The rich man's world is small, just him and his possessions, and now he learns that he is to lose his life. What good are his possessions now? Jesus states the moral of the story. This is how it will be for everyone who stores up treasure for himself or herself but is not rich in what matters to God.
Centuries later St. Gregory the Great taught that when we care for the needs of the poor, we are giving them what is theirs, not ours. We are not just performing works of mercy; we are paying a debt of justice. Life does not consist of possessions but in sharing what we possess with others. The goods of the earth have been given to everyone.
Let us pray...
Lord, teach us to be kind in heart, so that love, grace, and charity flow forth like a river. Give us a generosity that reflects your own, through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Navigating the online experiences of your children requires effort and diligence.
Be prepared for the reality that, despite the best filters and parental controls, at some time your child may stumble across, or be exposure to sexually explicit material, grooming and unwanted approaches from strangers, cyberbullying, internet addiction, privacy issues and sexting, to name a few.

RESPIRATORY ILLNESS PROCEDURES - GOOGLE FORM
Please continue to fill in the reporting google form if your child has even the mildest of respiratory symptoms; is a close household contact, or has tested Positive for COVID-19.
The information contained in this form gives me very good data about prevailing illness in the school which I can communicate to parents to help us all work together to ensure the health and safety of our community.
This google form can be found on the St Brigid’s website, as a link in the Brigid Bulletin and by clicking the link in the COMPASS news-feed.
Students and staff who have undergone testing and have been directed to self-isolate can return to school when: they have received a negative test result, completed their 7 day isolation period AND are not displaying symptoms of illness.
Your support in ensuring the health and safety of the St Brigid’s Community during this global pandemic has been greatly appreciated.
Please complete it any day or time of the week, including weekends. The information will automatically come to Ms Uroda and Mrs Sammut.

- SSOs: Mrs Lisa Paton
- STUDENTS: An amazing group of charismatic, kind, compassionate and engaged students who love to learn together.
- Year 6 REPORTERS: Evie, Georgia

Stay tuned for SPOTLIGHT ON LEARNING in the next Brigid Bulletin edition in Term 3 Week 5, where we will showcase Kindergarten in Week 5.
DO YOU WANT TO SEE A LEARNING TASK THAT YOUR CHILD HAS ENGAGED IN THROUGH THE COMPASS PORTAL?
In Week 5 you will be able to see an assessment task that your child has completed on COMPASS. You will see a learning intention, success criteria and a grade next to each success criteria from the classroom teacher. The learning intention comes from the NSW syllabus and the success criteria outlines how students can be successful with the task. Teachers will assign either Working Towards, Working At or Working Beyond for each success criteria. Your child will show you their completed assessment task on either Seesaw (K-2) or Google Classroom (3-6). This is another way we would like to engage you in what your child has been learning.
Please also note when your child's class Guided Learning Walk is happening, this is an excellent way to be engaged with your child in the learning space. Your child will guide you through the learning process in their classroom. I will send out a compass notification in Week 5 when your child's assessment task becomes available.
BULLYING NO WAY DAY - RESPECT IN GAMES
We are continuing to focus on RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS at St Brigid's and part of the student engagement is a second Bullying No Way Day! This time we are working on Respect in Games.
Students can come to school wearing BLUE MUFTI CLOTHES + sports shoes on Friday 5 August 2022 (Week 3) to celebrate respect in games. They will learn about how to play fairly, the qualities of a 'GOOD SPORT', what a sore loser is and what a gracious winner is. They will also engage in fun and physical activities to learn about respect in games. That is why they will also need to bring a hat and sports shoes on this day.
NUDE FOOD - GET ON BOARD TO REDUCE SINGLE USE PACKAGING
This term we are launching NUDE FOOD at St Brigid's. This means we are encouraging all students to bring plastic free lunch and snacks to school each day. Our SRC, Stewardship and Justice Leaders will be leading this initiative. This will begin in Week 4 after our SRC and leaders have visited all classrooms to teach them about what nude food is and why it is important to limit the amount of plastic waste we have each day. The SRC members from each class will tally up the amount of nude food lunch boxes brought to school on a random day during the week. There will be incentives for the classes who bring the most bring nude food lunches to school and these are:
- Each week the class that has the most nude food will be announced on assembly and will be awarded with the St Brigid's Peace Lily for their classroom for the week.
- During Weeks 3, 6 and 9 there will be bonus 'House points' awarded and the winning house will receive 20 tokens.
- During Weeks 3,6,9 the students who bring Nude Food in will receive a raffle ticket to go into the draw to win a special NUDE FOOD lunchbox. What a COOL prize.
- The class that has brought Nude Food to school the most throughout Term 3 will receive a reward of extra play and sampling some fresh produce from our school garden.
Please talk to your child/children about what nude food is and ask them to help prepare a nude food lunchbox. Some ideas are in the handout below. Our SRC will be showing the students examples of Nude Food lunch boxes. We thank you kindly for your support as we work together to care for our common home ... this beautiful planet.
RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS - STUDENT VOICE
Last term we continued our exploration of what a Safe and Respectful School looks like, sounds like and feels like. We consulted our students in the form of a survey to gather their thoughts and opinions on how safe and respected they felt at school. The teachers analysed this data last week and have come up with a plan for this term. All classes have started this term with defining what DISRESPECTFUL WORDS and BEHAVIOURS are and we will further explore the concept of respect as a non-negotiable during our Bullying No Way Day- Respect in Games. An outline of the plan for this term is as follows:
- A student consultation group to develop 'peer-to-peer relationships' expectations that will be explicitly taught to the whole school.
- A weekly focus of RESPECT to be announced by the Year 6 leaders at the assembly and this focus will then be taught through role play during the week and students who display this focus will be affirmed and awarded.

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop 8 August In the mid-late 19th century, a young woman was very concerned with the plight of the poor and the marginalised in the colonies which later became the Commonwealth of Australia. Amongst the most obvious necessities of life for these ‘least’ was the schooling of the young, as education is a proven path out of poverty. So, this woman, whose most famous saying was ‘never see a need without trying to do something about it’, set about remedying that situation. Mary McKillop established the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart principally to educate the poor. She suffered excommunication for revealing the sexual abuse of youngsters by a paedophile priest. That was reversed five months later, but this all took its toll on her fragile health. We could pause for a moment to pray that we may join St Mary of the Cross in Heaven, together with all the Josephite sisters who set their hearts on the Father’s kingdom and His saving justice. © Fr Michael Tate; mtate@bigpond.com |

The Assumption 15 August A mother carries her child in her womb, giving that child a share in her own life. What if a child were able to share their life with their mother? This is what we believe happened between our Risen Lord and his mother, Mary. It is our faith that our Lord nourishes Mary with His Resurrection life, meaning that her body and soul, her total humanity, is suffused with His Divine glory. She gracefully made the transition from earthly to heavenly existence without the wrenching apart of body and soul that we may expect. This is what we mean by ‘The Assumption’. This has been believed and celebrated since the early centuries of the church. Why was it only proclaimed by Pope Pius XII in 1950? I think because in the first half of the 20th century tens of millions were killed in wars, death camps and in the Russian and China Communist dictatorships. The Holy Spirit needed to remind the world that human beings are bodies and souls made for transfiguration, not disfiguration by starvation, torture, massacre and disposal like animal carcasses. We could pause for a moment to pray that we may share in the gift of transfigured bodies at the end of history. © Fr Michael Tate; mtate@bigpond.com |

ARE YOU DETAILS UP TO DATE IN COMPASS
It is very important that all your contact details are accurate in COMPASS. You can update these through the app of your phone or contact the office and we can amend your details. In addition, if there are updated medical reports, visa or court documentation this must also be supplied to the school for our records.
Please also note, that the system used in CEDoW does not work well with hot mail addresses. If you have an alternative email address, please add that to your COMPASS profile. That way you will never miss out of important information sent out by the school.

CANTEEN OPENING UPDATE
Dear Parents and Carers
We have tried tirelessly to find a provider to outsource our canteen to, however, we have had no luck due to the size of our school. There has, therefore, been A LOT of work going on in the background to at least open our small canteen one day a week to start with using our parent and carer community as volunteers. At this stage, all things going to plan, the canteen will reopen on Friday the 12/8/2022. More details on how to order will come out next week.
We have had some wonderful volunteers come forward already - thank you. I would like to make sure this is extended to all of our amazing grandparents & carers who are able to help. If you know of a grandparent or carer who could spare some time, please let us know.
We are also still looking for a CANTEEN COORDINATOR. Without one, long term, we will be unable to continue this endeavour. We don’t imagine this will be a huge job, but it does need to be someone dedicated. If you think this is something you could undertake, or if you know of someone in our parent & carer community who could, OR if you have any questions about the role, please contact us via pandf@sbgdow.catholic.edu.
Last but not least, please join me in thanking the team that has been working so hard in the background to get the canteen back up to scratch and set up all of the systems needed to get the canteen up and running again- it has been no small task and there’s still a lot of work ahead- thank you!!!!
